Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her marine biology studies at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard's journey to professional success began in 1999 with a job aboard the vessel F/V Sunset. It is a 65-foot halibut boat was turned to a salmon tender by Murat Ariatn, who has been commercial fishing for more than twenty years. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999, and the couple have teamed up to fight for their business. They are both proponents conservation of sustainable, renewable sources of seafood. In 2007, now a mother to two kids Bella age 3 and Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia established a direct wholesale distribution of seafood called Otolith. Otolith's name is an affectionate reference to Bossard's extensive experience with fish biology as well as her husband's extensive connections in the industry of seafood. It is common for them to be separated for up to 5 months at a stretch while they pursue objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that show their determination and autonomy wherever they are. As of July 2016 Bossard along with her daughter Isabella aged 12 and Andre age 10 Andre age 10 are back in Southeast Alaska annually each summer for deckhand work throughout the summer wild salmon harvest. Utilizing a troller of 42 inches they catch salmon using hooks. Then they work alongside Aritan at a local processing plant for two weeks.
